A Simple Phrase to Help You Make Every Big Decision

Deciding to become an expat comes with countless moments where the next step isn’t obvious. That uncertainty can feel heavy, especially when every choice seems to carry big consequences. Where should we live? Should we sell our house or rent it? Are the kids too young (or too old) for this kind of move?

When I find myself in that space, there’s one phrase I come back to again and again:

All I can do is make the best decision I can with the information I have.

That’s it. You’re not clairvoyant. You can’t predict how things will turn out, and life is full of unintended consequences anyway. You’ll never know what might have happened if you’d chosen differently.

So, gather what you know. Talk it through with the people who matter. Make a call. And then don’t look back.

If you make the best decision you can with the information you have at the time, that’s all anyone can ask of themselves. And if the information changes, do the same thing all over again.
